Pompeii

Pompeii was the cite of an eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79AD and the city was destroyed. It has been mostly excavated and recreated as much as possible. We visited this town outside of Naples. Below are some pictures from our visit. The picture at left is from the forum of Pompeii with a mountain but not Mt. Vesuvius in the background. The day that we were there Mt. Vesuvius was mostly hidden by the clouds.





The picture at right is of Daniel and Christopher walking down one of the streets of Pompeii. This would have been one of the residential streets. Note the four blocks behind Christopher. These were used to ensure that only carriages and carts of a certain width were allowed to move through the streets of the town.
