Even though we had to come to the US due to COVID, I thought I would add to the blog. (See March post on that...)
Day to day life was interesting. One of my favorites was the drive to school.
First, there are the trees. We were there during the dry season. We have seen rain twice for about 10 minutes each in 90 days. However, some of the trees are still green...amazing....and some are blooming like Spring without water.....The province is called Guanacaste, which is also an iconic tree here. I particularly like it when the cows are under the tree getting shade.
Second, there are the animals on the road. This is a cattle region, with most of the land used as pasture for cattle. Farmers ride horses to move the cattle between fields. They look so cool on their horses with boots and hats. But we have seen them use bicycle, mopeds, cars, or walking with a big stick to move cattle. Each day you never know what you might see on the road. We have also seen goats, chickens, and sheep.
Third, the roads can be quite varied. The main roads are good, but have limited shoulders. And yet there are people walking, biking everywhere. There are also dogs, bicycles, mopeds, dump trucks that can pop in front of you at any moment! We drove white knuckled much of time. The back roads have less worries about hitting something and more worries about hurting the car. The potholes are enormous. But luckily there is always a grader, bulldozer, and dump truck (in the way) fixing the roads. You can go around construction at your own leisure. Half of the time there is no one there to guide you. We have driven on roads and near equipment which we had no business being near. The video was not on the way to school, but you get the idea.
